Professor Yochum received his PhD from Wake Forest University. Prior to joining SBC, he was an Engineer/Member of Technical Staff at Lucent Technologies/OFS Specialty Photonics. Professor Yochum has research interests in experimental condensed matter physics and nanotechnology. He is particularly interested in the design and characterization of nanostructured optical devices and defects in optical materials. Dr. Yochum is also active in middle school science teacher education. He has received funding from NSF, the Jeffress Foundation, and the State Council on Higher Education of Virginia. Dr Yochum's hobbies include snowboarding, running, and playing with his cats.

Professor Hyman has research interests in radio astronomy and image processing. He is currently conducting a wide-field search for transient radio emission from the center of our Galaxy in order to discover new types of astronomical objects. He has published extensively on his research, including an article in the journal, Nature, on the discovery of the bursting transient source, GCRT J1745-3009. He has received funding from the National Science Foundation, NASA, Research Corporation, and the Jeffress Memorial Trust.

Professor Sanadgol has received her Ph.D. from the University of Virginia. Her research interest are in controlling flow instabilities in compressors, magnetic bearings, rotordynamics and application of nonlinear and robust control theories to mechatronics systems. Her hobbies include biking and running.

Professor Pierce received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech. He has teaching interests in machine design, strength of materials, computer-aided design, materials and manufacturing, dynamics, and physics. His has research interests in precision engineering and metrology, computer-aided geometric tolerance analysis, design, and control of extremely high precision positioning systems

T.C. Scott is a Mechanical Engineering Professor and the director of the department’s undergraduate laboratories at the University of Virginia. He is currently a visiting Professor at the Engineering Program at Sweet Briar College. He earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan. He also holds a certificate in Automotive Engineering from the Chrysler Institute of Engineering.
Dr. Scott’s interests include teaching, laboratory development, and student project supervision. He has many years of experience in industry, consulted over 30 companies, guided the reorganization and improvement of the undergraduate laboratory courses at UVA, developed a course in automotive engineering, and is writing a text on heat transfer.
Phoebe Hyman provides recruiting and administrative support for the
Engineering program. She is also an adjunct instructor of English and
teaches Business Writing. Ms. Hyman has worked at Sweet Briar for over
7 years and has recently joined our Engineering staff. She has over 15
years of business, information systems, and technical writing
experience and has worked for Ernst & Young and MCI Telecommunications
prior to joining Sweet Briar College. Ms. Hyman has a B.A. in English
Literature from the University of California at Berkeley and an M.A.
in English Literature from Georgetown University.
